Perry W. Turner

Perry joined Occucare International in 2008 and for the past 10 years has served as Director of Medical Operations and Injury Management to one of the world’s largest defense contractors for both US and overseas operations. As Director, he leads all aspects of medical operations, with special attention to Injury Management, Fitness for Duty, Return to Work Programs, and Workers’ Compensation claims management. He works directly with and provides guidance to the departments of Human Resources, Risk Management, General Counsel, and Work Comp TPA’s in medical matters. One of his primary focuses is on regulatory affairs, workers’ compensation, injury/incident investigation, and case review. Perry has been instrumental with program implementation showing a performance average of greater than 90% reduction in recordable and lost worktime events for the business sectors that he supports. This reduction equates to a reduced EMR and increased workers’ compensation cost savings. Under Perry’s guidance, the client was able to achieve its first 3 million man-hours of no lost work time events as awarded by the Kentucky Governor’s Labor Cabinet. Viewed as a subject matter expert within this arena, Perry frequently attends various conferences as a guest speaker to share his knowledge on Injury and Risk Management programs and reducing workers’ compensation costs and mitigation.

Previously, Perry served with Occucare International as Director of Medical Operations assigned with the MOX project under the Nuclear Regulatory Commission’s Savannah River site facility. There he oversaw daily operations, performed patient evaluations, and provided treatment for occupational and non-work related injuries/illnesses where he had great success in the reduction of lost work time and recordable events. During this period, Perry also served as OCONUS Operations Director for the deployment of medical personnel to Afghanistan in support of defense contractors with forward operating bases.

Perry has four decades of experience in the military, public safety, and private sector where he served as Emergency Services Director and then onto the State office of South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and Emergency Preparedness. Perry is a proud veteran of the US Navy’s Bureau of Naval Medicine having served honorably with commendations during deployments as an IDC (Navy DOC)- Fleet Marine Force under Enduring Freedom & Noble Eagle. Perry has extensive knowledge in emergency, occupational, and preventive medicine, medical surveillance programs, and regulatory affairs. Education- Navy/Excelsior College in Healthcare Management and Midlands College in Emergency Medicine. Perry maintains all relative national registries and multistate licensure. Perry is a former National Registry Representative and the current Program Director for licensure and clinical proficiency. Perry is a 1997 graduate and former instructor at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy.

Over the years, Perry has held a number of advanced teaching credentials in medical, public safety, and regulatory affairs, having also received National Safety Council Instructor, OSHA-30 Instructor through the Medical College of Georgia, NCIT-Council on Licensure, Enforcement & Regulations (CLEAR), and National Incident Command Systems (NIMS) while assigned with Emergency Preparedness. Perry enjoys classic cars and spending time with his son volunteering with various organizations that support children with Down Syndrome.
